Throw and catch a ball

Kid accounts are not part of this version. These skills are for an adult to do with a child. You still need to be 18 to have an account.
A parent-and-child catch session. Ten throws you can count, a ball that fits a small hand, and a place that is not a street. Kid accounts are not on this board. You do this one together.

Tools and materials
- A ball sized for the child's hands
- A flat bit of yard or park
- Shoes you can move in
Steps
1. Set the distance
Start close enough that the child can succeed. Two adult steps is plenty. Face each other. Phones stay in another room.
2. Throw to the hands
A gentle underhand toss to their chest, not their face. They throw it back the same way. Count out loud together.
3. Stop while it is fun
Twenty catches, or sooner if someone is done. Say what worked. Do not add a lesson after the game is over.
Safety
Stay out of the street and away from windows. A ball to the face is the usual miss, so aim at the chest and keep the throws soft. This is play with a child, led by an adult. It is not a coaching certificate.
Common mistakes
- Starting too far apart
- Turning it into a correction after every throw
A rolled sock works indoors if you have no yard. Same count.
Off-screen challenge: now go try it
Put the phone in another room. Throw and catch twenty times with a child. Count the catches out loud. Stop while it is still fun.
Proofs
Twenty catches in the yard with my nephew. Phone was in the kitchen. We stopped when he wanted to kick it instead.
